"Our department was estableshed 1992 and the same year were accepted to the undergraduate program of Paintings. It has been aimed to educate qualified candidates of artists in Department of Art. Educational programme of the Department is based on following contemporary developments in art and artistic education in line with academic studies and researches. Students have the courses “Basic Artistic Education, Design, Art History” heavily for the first year. In the next years, “Design out of model, Art Atelier, Analysis of Art Works, Modernism and Entrance to Modern Art, Actual Art, Art in Republic Period, Aesthetics and Art Philosophy as elective, Mythologyand Iconographic Analysis, Original Printing, Mural Painting, Ceramics, Sculpture, Three- Dimensional Design Practice courses are given.In addition, a certain degree of intensity and significance has been attached to theoretical courses as well as workshops in programmes so as to be able to develop a personal attitude and an authentic expression for artistic meaning. In this direction, it has been targeted that students gain the courage to reveal their own creative powers and become individuals educated with a certain degree of aesthetical sensitivity through modern understanding. In the period of study, the meeting of students’ works with the audience in the city and other provinces has been provided. Academic staff and students of the Department having bilateral educational agreement with many universities abroad take part in the related issues in the frame of Erasmus and exchange information in the universities they have been to. In addition, students participate into national and international exhibitions and student trienals. Students graduating from the Department of Art can work as free artist, teacher of visual arts in private and public institutions, artistic consultant, academic staff in educational and research institutions who are responsible for elective and art courses related with Fine Arts. Students also can obtain pedagogical formation certificate programme executed in universities permitted by the Higher Education Council. Each year, 15 students have been accepted for SDU, Faculty of Fine Arts, Art Department."
